Meet the Team: Inaugural Post

Let's introduce some of the authors of the blog:

Who are you and what do you eat?

Flammable:
I'm also a foodie and amateur cook, trying to learning new cooking techniques as often as I learn new lab techniques.

I have a deep appreciation for most foods, but I definitely enjoy Japanese food pretty universally. I'm good with most regional cuisines, and I'm always looking for unique, affordable, and clever dishes to try or make.

I'm still exploring traditional, unaltered regional foods--I feel that the best way to get a feel for what about a food is done right is to compare notes with some of the best. Alton Brown and Mark Bittman are among my food heroes.

ProfessorBeekums:
ME EAT FOOD!

T-Bone:
Anything organic that's not cat, dog, guinea pig, human, alive, or a waste product. I'm sure there's other restrictions but my brain's in hibernating mode.

At the moment, I'm open to trying at least one new joint every weekend.

Ethan:
I tend away from "white people food", including diners, Applebee's, and similar. Dairy allergic. My rating scheme is: 0, meaning "completely inedible"; 1, meaning "edible" (i.e. "It's food"); 2, meaning "It's good" or "I liked it"; 3, meaning "It's amazing" or "I loved it".

SDShamshel:
Though I'm known primarily as an otaku, I have a love of food much older and greater than my passion for anime. I barely know how to cook, and often my ideas for dishes stem from a desire to fulfill a theme rather than consideration for the actual taste. For me, food is an adventure and a close friend. I am always eager to try new things, and rarely shy away from a "challenge." My favorite food however is curry, curry from all corners of the Earth. I also enjoy trying foods with "bad" reputations. Natto, by the way, is delicious.

I don't know a lot of food terminology or whatever, but when I describe my feelings for food you can be sure it will have the full weight of my senses of taste and smell, and the sentimentality and mix of emotions that can only come with eating.

Welcome to DnD, 1st edition

Hello web-webs!

This blog is a collective effort by us to chronicle our own food adventures. It will primarily be devoted to eating out, focusing on our experiences as individual diners through solo or group food forays.

The bulk of us are Stuyvesant High School graduates, and have maintained our friendships more than 5 years after many of us graduated. We are intellectuals, advisors, creators, scientists, and programmers. Among us are casual diners and hardcore foodies, tiny tasters and human food disposals. Many of us still live in New York here, though a few of us are scattered about the Northeast. We are diverse not only in our preferences, but also our origins, tastes, and ideals.

Let us share with you our experiences just as we share them with each other.
